FAQs

How do I report a Maintenance problem?
Complete a Maintenance Request Form and hand this to the main YMCA reception or contact the team direct on 07834 967374.

Is there a charge?
No. However if the repair is due to abuse, neglect or vandalism then there may be a charge.

Do I need to be at home?
Yes.

Have my locks been changed?
Yes, this is a standard procedure carried out when tenants leave.

My flat is too hot
During the winter months (September to April) the main boilers are on timers to heat the communal areas and inside the flats in the morning and at night. In the summer months (May – September) the heating is switched off. At all times the temperature of all radiators in flats can be controlled using radiator valves.

How do the radiator valves work?
The valves have settings from off and then 1(low) – 5 (high). This sets the temperature of the radiator. If this does not make a difference to the temperature then this should be reported to reception and logged on a maintenance request form as it may be faulty.

Can I paint my flat or make alterations?
Home improvements are not allowed unless prior written agreement has been made between the tenant and the YMCA. Only neutral colours are allowed.

Flats are subject to a moving out inspection and should be left in the same condition as when moving in. Any damage is the tenants responsibility and will be charge accordingly if not carried out.

When is the rubbish collected?
The rubbish is collected three times a week from the rubbish bins; rubbish left in hallways will not be removed. Please report any rubbish found on the stairs and hallways as this is a fire hazard

I'm in a shared flat - who pays for the electric in the hallway and bathroom?
The YMCA pays for the electrical cost in the hallways and bathrooms. Light bulbs supplied from reception.

Where do I put unwanted furniture?
Unwanted furniture/goods remain the responsibility of the tenant and should not be abandoned in hallways or outside. YMCA can help to remove but prior notice is required.
